The Sheffield Replacement Crew arrived in North Pickenham during the month of June. With very little in-house training they were quickly assigned to fill one of the many voids in 857th BS. They were designated to replace the missing J Harris Crew 707.

Our count shows the Sheffield Crew flying 15 missions for the 492nd. We don't have any confimation as to who was on board on each of the missions. When the Crew transferred to the 93rd BG on 10 Aug 44, they were minus their radio operator.

According to Sheffield, the pilot, they flew 16 missions with the 492nd. Perhaps one of those aborted missions shown below was credited. Or perhaps he was one up on his crew. The 492nd did have a policy to have their new replacement pilots fly a mission as co-pilot with another crew prior to taking their own crew up. On a crew's maiden mission, it was also customary to switch co-pilots with an experienced crew.
